Airdrie Black Community Celebrates Award Recognition of Member Ime “Dixon” Usen

Airdrie, Alberta — The Airdrie Black Community (ABC) proudly joins in celebrating one of its distinguished members, Ime “Dixon” Usen, following his recent recognition in the category of Entrepreneur of the Year Award at the AC Awards YYC 2025. He received this award based on for his outstanding leadership, innovation, and contribution to Canada’s security industry.

Dixon Usen is widely regarded as a quiet innovator and visionary leader. Trained as an Electronic Engineer, he graduated with first-class honours and demonstrated exceptional technical aptitude early in his career, including the development of a fully functioning alarm system in machine language during his final year of university. While his engineering foundation laid the groundwork for his success, it was in business development and people-centered leadership that Dixon found his true purpose.

That purpose materialized in the founding of Equity Security, now recognized as one of Canada’s most remarkable Black-owned security companies. Under Dixon’s leadership, Equity Security has achieved several historic milestones, including:

  • Becoming the first Black-owned firm to secure Alberta’s Wildfire Protection Contract
  • Receiving a Gold Partner Award from Alarm.com
  • Earning a National Top Producer Award

Beyond industry accolades, Dixon’s impact is deeply human. During Alberta’s wildfire seasons, Equity Security served as a vital economic bridge for more than 300 newcomers to Canada, providing employment, stability, and opportunity during a critical period. Today, the company deploys close to 90 security professionals nightly across multiple cities, operating not only as a commercial enterprise, but as a trusted community institution.

Dixon’s commitment to service extends well beyond entrepreneurship. He has held leadership and advocacy roles within the South South Heritage community, the Airdrie Black Community, and the Akwa Ibom Association, consistently guided by a philosophy of lifting others as he rises.

The members and leadership of the Airdrie Black Community extend their heartfelt congratulations to Ime “Dixon” Usen on this well-deserved recognition. We celebrate his achievements, his integrity, and his unwavering dedication to excellence and community empowerment.
