What does my membership include?

Becoming an Active Member of the Airdrie Black Community (ABC) grants you access to a wide range of benefits, including:

  • Voting rights at General Meetings
  • Participation in decision-making about programs, policies, and the strategic direction of ABC
  • Eligibility to serve on committees, subcommittees, and leadership initiatives
  • Access to members-only information, resources, community updates, and special announcements

Your membership supports ABC’s mission to Strengthen Our Diversity through unity, advocacy, and community empowerment.

ABC offers two membership categories for adults:

 

Regular (Primary) Membership

  • $60 per year
  • Required for at least one adult per household
  • Grants full Active Member privileges

Family Membership (Additional Adults 18+ in the same household)

  • $30 per year (50% discount)
  • Must live at the same address as the Primary Member
  • Must complete an individual registration form
  • Must list the Primary Member during registration

Note:

  • Children under 18 are not eligible for membership.
  • Every adult seeking Active Member status must register individually.

The ABC membership year runs from:

August 1 to July 31

  • Dues are not prorated.
  • New members must pay the full annual fee regardless of when they join.
  • Renewals must be completed before July 31 each year.
  • Reminders will be shared before the renewal deadline.

Membership renewal is completed through the ABC website Members Portal and follows this process:

  • Members will receive an email notification on or after July 1 advising that their membership is due for renewal.
  • The notification will include a link to the ABC Members Portal, where members can log in to renew their membership.
  • Members are required to complete their renewal on or before July 31, which is the end of the membership year.
  • Renewal is completed by paying the stated membership fee through the online payment portal.
  • Once payment is submitted, the renewal request will be reviewed by the ABC administration.
  • Upon approval, members will receive a confirmation notification indicating that their membership has been successfully renewed and remains Active.

Please note that membership status remains Active only when renewal fees are paid in full and approved before the July 31 expiration date

Yes. Members may request cancellation at any time.

However:

  • No refunds are issued for dues already paid.
  • Once cancelled, the member loses voting rights, member-only access, and eligibility to serve on committees.
  • Members may reapply at any time by completing a new registration form and paying the annual fee.

There are no hidden fees associated with membership.

Additional fees may only apply for:

  • Special events or galas
  • Optional workshops or training programs
  • Sponsored advertising on the ABC website
  • Fundraising initiatives (optional participation)

Regular membership provides full access to rights and benefits without extra cost.

According to ABC’s bylaws, eligible individuals include:

  • Black residents living in Airdrie
  • Black individuals who work, study, or operate a business in Airdrie
  • Black residents of Calgary or surrounding areas who operate a business or work/study in Airdrie

Members must be 18 years or older to join.

Regular (Primary) Member:

  • Pays $60
  • Becomes the main household member for membership purposes
  • Must live in Airdrie

Family Member:

  • Pays $30 (50% discount)
  • Must be 18+
  • Must live at the same physical address as the Primary Member
  • Must complete their own registration form

Example:
A household with one Primary Member and two additional adult Family Members pays:
$60 + $30 + $30 = $120 per year total

Yes. Once registered and approved, Family Members receive:

  • Voting rights
  • Eligibility to serve on committees
  • Access to member-only resources
  • All other benefits of Active Membership

The only difference is the discounted membership fee.

To confirm household eligibility, ABC may request:

  • A government-issued ID showing the same home address, or
  • A utility bill or similar document confirming shared residency

This ensures fairness and proper application of the discounted rate.
